Tina Turner: Queen of rock ‘n’ roll
Tina Turner was not only an iconic rock legend but also conducted her life with courage, determination, and an indomitable spirit that will continue to inspire generations to come.
At a formative time for Any Effects, we found ourselves in a singularly unromantic studio in Fulham London to film Tina’s comeback cover “Let’s stay together”, produced by Heaven 17.
The 80’s pop video was a medium not yet refined and so, as was common in those MTV days, there was unexplained choreography and an unexplained set. Most of the video was shot in limbo but halfway through the camera angles widened to reveal pyramids of fire. To enhance the effect the rigs were set in shallow pools of water.
This remains the only time we have created fire effects with wellies on and the only time a legend has sung ‘walking on water’ in response to seeing us work.
This video was the comeback that launched Tina’s Stella career. We are proud to have been a part of it.
